When God speaks a promise personally, however that might come to you, and you know it was Him, your faith soars. That promise seems impervious and immutable. That promise lights a seemingly unquenchable fire under you and you believe.

But as days turn to weeks and weeks to years, the promise fades and blurs and your faith wanes. It's like my body, aging, tiring, weakening, the life and energy it once had being slowly, methodically drained.

The enemy works that way. He doesn't mind working like a slow drip, day after day, until the whole house is flooded. When it comes to faith, he wears it down, constantly throwing thoughts at us like: you're not healed, it's never gonna happen, you are too old, you're too sick, there's no hope, it's too late... He systematically drains the life out of your precious promise until nothing is left but a transparent shell of he joyous hope of it's beginnings.

I understand this firsthand. I've had many promises in my life. Only a few have been instantaneous or quick. Most have taken many years to come to pass, so I well understand the agony and battle of keeping hope alive for so long a time.

But God specializes in things called impossible as the wonderful old song says. He gives babies to the elderly, the barren. He promises Israel a savior (now that was LONG). But I think about Sarah a lot because of Hebrews 11:11. In the past three years I've read that scripture over and over and over. One that God gave me with this promise. Recently, when my faith was waning, I read it again. This time, it became a revelation.

Hebrews 11:11 "Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised."

So I studied the Scripture again. Looking at it in depth. Notice Sara(h) believed right from the beginning and received strength to conceive seed. Look at the last part "because she judged Him faithful who had promised." The same had been said about Abraham. It didn't say she was a great woman of great faith, the Scripture says she judged Him faithful who had promised. What? What was that? Who was faithful? Oh! It was God! He was the one who is faithful. He is always faithful. He keeps his promises. Always. He's not a man that he should lie.

So if you have been given a promise and deep down you know that He gave it to you, then all you have to remember whether day after day or year after year is that He is faithful.

Now just to encourage you, I will tell you a few of my stories of promises God gave me through the years.

At one time in my life my little daughter was taken from me. I had no help and no money. I had a younger daughter and I was pregnant. God told me to let her go and he would give her back to me. I had her back in one week.

Years later, when divorced with four children, I asked God if I would ever marry again. He said He had someone for me. I committed to not date and waited for his choice. Seven long years later, He brought him to me. A blessing beyond what I ever thought or hoped.

Many years after, we found ourselves in no position to have a home again. But He promised me I would have a home. After nine years in an RV, we now have a wonderful home. Strangely enough it looked a bit like the house on the cover of my first book More Than She Dreamt. We are so thankful.

Now, today I wait for healing. Three years ago, I had severe health issues. Ones that do not go away and with excruciating pain that I cannot even describe. I couldn't write or type my books, I couldn't paint my paintings, I couldn't read and barely slept or walked, I couldn't even crochet. I am somewhat better and slowly with help, I have been able to try to put my new home together. It is painful to pick up a book (and we have a lot of them). Everything I do hurts. Typing this is painful.

When I reread Hebrews 11:11 the other day and saw that revelation, I was in a down time. Faith was waning. Hope was drowning. But when I realized that it wasn't my faithfulness but His, I rested in my promise yet again. I am not healed yet, but I expect it—not because I have some great mustered up faith but because He is faithful!.
